SDCCD building housing

·         Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College got approved $155,000 in grants. The schools haven’t considered to build housing on Campus. Though the process of finding the right place for housing is still in its preliminary stages, the college has identified locations on its campuses.

·         Miracosta hasn’t considered on Campus housing either. The $155,000 in grants they received was way below the $250,000 requested to contract a consultancy firm to do the feasibility study.

·         Palomar College received $821,000, the second largest received, for the planning of housing. Palomar is looking for a public-private funding to build and manage the housing.

·         San Diego Community College District is the lucky one, is able to build 10,000 units in their 4 campuses. The district has already received a pair of $30,000 grants from San Diego Foundation and Lucky Duck Foundation, as well as $100,000 from the local chapter of Funders Together to End Homelessnes. SDCC is the only one that has taken individual action and has allocated, for housing, its former child development center. They also received a grant of $344,000 from SB169.

·         Southwestern College received a grant for $618,000 (SB169) to perform feasibility studies at five different sites. The sites include college-owned and city-owned properties. The aim of the projects is for 1,500 to 2,000 units.
