Research by the Hope Center

The survey by the Hope Center for College in 2021 showed, in a sample of 195,000 students at 202 colleges in 42 states, that 52% of respondents in a two-year institution, were housing insecure vs. 43% of a four year institution. Most of them, could not pay rent or utility bills.

Most students demonstrate that affordable housing, transport, and childcare are the most important factors to earn a college degree. Research has concluded that students facing housing insecurity have higher rates of depression, anxiety, which impacts the well being of the student, causing lower GPAs and in some cases dropping out of classes/school. The main reason of these students for leaving school is living expenses.
